Joseph 10D IE Award Blog Week 1-9
Role: Information Designer
During the first week of the IE Award Project, our group was divided into 4 different roles. I was selected to be the Information Designer(I changed from Editor).
Each of us set our goals for the lesson, and for the entire project. I set myself these specific goals:
- Collaborate with other group members accordingly and discuss ways to move forward and improve.
- Complete Information Designer tutorial tasks on ISLE.
- Understand the role of information design and its significance
- How my design can affect the final outcome
We first had to select a topic to focus on. As a group, we decided that we will choose the same topic as our Global Perspectives, which is Human Trafficking. We did research beforehand already, so we are quite knowledgeable on the subject.
I had to wait for my teammates to come up with ideas for the outcome(may it be a documentary or news report). We also have to find out who we are going to contact and interview.
I learnt many things about editing today. The clips that were provided on ISLE were informative, easy-to-understand and straightforward. I learnt about the importance of audio, pacing, cutting, transitions, rule of thirds etc. To view the full detailed document of this, it is in Planning & Research.
We also investigated more on human trafficking, and how dangerous it can be. We have taken notes on several recent cases and discussing ways to prevent it. We have identified the main stakeholders and hopefully will be able to contact them soon.
The director of our group also set up a communication group on Hangouts, so it is convenient for us to contact each other when necessary.
Later, I switched to being the information designer so I had to do its beginning tasks. I will still keep my editing work here, just for good measure.

I had to cram the Planning and Research into Week 3, due to changing roles.
Them comes Week 4, where we took a break from the IE Award into writing our team Project Reflections. Link- Team Project Reflections
Week 5 was also finalising my reflection after the teacher comment.
Here is Week 5-6 work on completing my draft edit of the Infographic Video- Week 5-6 Originality and Creativity for IV. - I received some good comments on my uses of infographics, but it still wasn't enough for the final video.
For the final two weeks, I finalised my infographic video using Powtoon, a more detailed description will be found in the attached blog post. Here is my Week 7-8 Originality and Creativity work- Final Infographic Video Work. You can view the link to my final infographic video in the bottom of the blog post or click here.
My teammates liked the video and I think I showed a good skill of information designing and the originality and creativity aspect of this IEA.
This final Week, Week 9 is the final lesson to work on the project and submit the final infographic video(plus the entire video which will be submitted by the Editor).
For evaluation, I think I showed a decent understanding of the skills needed to create an eye-catching, informative and emotionally appealing infographic video. I learnt a lot of things during this work process and I could use the skills learnt from this project to transfer it to other areas. It was not easy changing roles in the 3rd week since I completed the editorial tasks and had to complete the Information Designer tasks all over from the beginning, so I think I managed to accomplish quite a lot of work during the entire 9 weeks of work.
I also learnt a lot on the subject of human rights and human trafficking, which was useful and now I know what to do if I witness one, and how I can involve myself to address the issue, challenge the process and take action. I hope that through my infographic video, the audience can understand how important the danger of human trafficking is, and make them be fully aware of it. It is a severe topic right now, even in the midst of the current troubles.
